All I want for Christmas…

November 10th, 2009 Posted in Games, Site News

Five years ago, the makers of the popular web comic Penny Arcade created the Child’s Play charity partly in response to the constant flow of news articles portraying gamers in a negative light and partly to do some good in the world with their internet celebrity status.

Since then Child’s Play has since contributed over $5 million in toys and games for sick children to play with in over 69 hospitals across 6 countries.

How does it work?  You visit the Child’s Play website, click on the icon for the hospital that you would like to support and it will bring you to an Amazon wish-list that the hospital has set up.  Pick and item or two from the list, checkout, and Amazon will send the item(s) directly to the hospital.  It is quick, it is easy, and it gives sick children something to do while in the hospital.

Both Victoria General Hospital and the BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver are partnered with this charity.  Instead of gifts this year, I will be encouraging my family and friends to donate to one of the above hospitals, or one in their local area.  I encourage you, my 5 loyal readers (Hi Mom! ;) ) to do the same.
