Infinity Ward, you broke my heart

November 12th, 2009 Posted in Games

You might have heard, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 developer Infinity Ward has shafted us PC gamers quite deeply with its release of the game.

There was some nerd rage, and talk of boycotts, but all I see on Steam and Twitter are people playing the damn game. Which doesn’t surprise me.

So what has IW done to deserve my ire?

  • No dedicated servers: A matchmaking service like XBOX Live, host advantage, no mods, no custom game types, no more server communities.
  • No ability to kick players: IW says they will handle hackers.  I call bullshit.
  • Max 9v9 battles: Really?

So, it seems to me that IW has been pushed by Activision to drop in a matchmaking service in place of the ones on the PS3 and XBOX instead of coding dedicated servers into the PC version.  Considering IW’s previous stances on the modding community and dedicated servers I can only think that Bobby Kotick is involved.

For shame.  EA and Activision will destroy all that is good in gaming.  Bobby, just stay away from Blizzard and let them make Starcraft2 and Diablo3 in peace.
