IIPA on Piracy: Canada Still a Problem
If you listened to the USTR you would think that Canada is a HUGE piracy problem – akin to the likes of Russia. Anyone that lives in Canada would of course know that this is bullshit. The lobbyists in the US have been pushing for stronger copyright laws in Canada to bring it to the level of the ridiculous laws like the DMCA that they enjoy in the states.
Because the media producers cannot get bills like the DMCA pushed through in Canada (largely due to public outcry the last 2 times such a bill was attempted) the USTR is putting Canada on its ‘Watch List’ in an effort to shame Canada into accepting dumb laws like the DMCA. Well, we ain’t biting – so piss off.
The Excessive Copyright blog has more information and a great rebuttal.
